Becoming the Artist Through a Virtual Wood Workshop

A virtual workshop that lets visitors carve a sculpture and see art through the maker's eyes.

About the project

In the Artist's Shoes

Crystal Bridges wanted visitors to do more than look at its wood sculptures. The goal was to let them step into the role of the artist and come away with a deeper appreciation for the craft, the material, and the making.

A Virtual Workshop

Working closely with the museum's digital team, Broken Egg first aligned on the experience the visitor should have, then built a virtual workshop where they choose a sculpture from the galleries and recreate it through 3D animation and interaction, before displaying their finished piece in their own gallery. It runs in English and Spanish: a quick, guided two-minute version on site, and a richer, explorable fifteen-minute world online.

A New Way to Look

It has become one of Broken Egg's most effective experiences, helping visitors see art differently by revealing how a piece is made. Continually improved over the years, it is now part of Crystal Bridges' growing digital collection and helped open a lasting partnership on further immersive projects.
