About the project
AI Meets the Gallery
The Museum of Art + Light (MoA+L), which opened in Manhattan, Kansas, in November 2024, wanted to explore new, participatory ways for visitors to engage with its galleries. During the early rise of AI image generation, they asked a simple question: could visitors sketch something and see it transformed into the style of a currently exhibited artist?
Visitors as Co-Creators
As a focused pilot from that early period, Broken Egg created an experience that trains on a featured artist's style so visitors can sketch and watch their drawing reimagined in that style. The studio was among the first to work with Adobe's Firefly, chosen as the ethically sourced AI a museum could publish with confidence, at a moment when few institutions could adopt the technology responsibly. The vision extended to projecting visitors' creations onto the museum's walls and facade at the end of each day.
A Pilot Ahead of Its Time
The result was a working pilot that let a young museum become an early mover in AI-driven, participatory art, exploring the technology responsibly at a time when it was still new to the cultural sector.
